2025 Surron Ultra Bee First Ride – What’s New and How It Rides

2025 Surron Ultra Bee

After nearly taking the win in our midsize shootout last year in stock form, the Surron Ultra Bee returns in 2025 with a range of meaningful upgrades across power, drivetrain, suspension, and ride features. Below is a breakdown of everything that’s changed on the new model.

What’s New on the 2025 Ultra Bee

Powertrain

The 2025 Ultra Bee features a redesigned motor that peaks at 21kW, though that full output is only available briefly through a new Turbo mode. In regular Sport mode, the bike now runs at a sustained 18kW — a solid bump in real-world power over the previous model’s 12.5kW. The motor itself uses a new hairpin-wound layout, which improves efficiency and cooling during extended rides.

A new controller with FOC-based software (MTPA and MTPV algorithms) manages torque more precisely and supports features like throttle mapping, regen braking, and traction control.

Battery & Charging

The battery gets a modest upgrade from 55Ah to 60Ah (still at 74V), bringing total capacity to around 4.4kWh. Internally, it uses a more advanced BMS with CAN communication and distributed temperature sensors. Charge time is also improved — with the right charger, Surron claims 20% to 80% in under 3 hours.

Ride Modes & Features

New ride modes and convenience features have been added:

  • Turbo mode provides full 21kW power for a short duration, activated by a double tap on the handlebar control.
  • Crawl mode allows low-speed control with three selectable speed settings, ideal for tight technical terrain.

Suspension & Frame

The fork sees a structural upgrade, with 50% increased rigidity thanks to thicker wall construction. Both the fork and shock now include hydraulic bump stops to help resist bottom-out on hard hits. Suspension travel remains the same (about 9.4 inches front and rear), and the core geometry is unchanged.

The forged aluminum frame has been reinforced to handle the increased power and weight, bumping the dry weight to about 195 lbs.

Drivetrain

The primary belt drive is now carbon fiber-reinforced, and it runs on forged steel pulleys coated with tungsten carbide. Surron claims triple the wear resistance over the previous version.

Wheels & Tires

One of the most welcomed changes is the switch from a 19″ to an 18″ rear wheel (now paired with a 100/90-18 tire). This opens up better tire options and adds sidewall compliance. The front wheel remains 19″.

Styling & Interface

The new model comes in Desert Brown or Carbon Black, with gold anodized fork tubes and refreshed graphics. The dash interface has been updated to support all the new ride modes and tuning options.

First Ride Impressions

From the saddle, the biggest change is power – not just in peak output, but in how accessible it is. The bike now makes 18kW in Sport mode, and it’s immediately noticeable. Turbo mode gives a short burst of full power, but it’s best used situationally – like at the start of a hill climb or race gate.

Power delivery is punchy, especially in the more aggressive throttle maps. Map F1 offers the softest throttle response and is the most manageable for trail riding. Maps F2 and F3 are more abrupt and feel overly sensitive. While the stock controller works well for most use cases, riders coming from high-end systems like the EBMX X9000 may still want that extra smoothness and tunability than a more refined controller can offer.

On the suspension side, the front end feels more solid. That added fork tube stiffness initially translates to better feedback when braking or hitting square-edge bumps. The rear shock also seems more composed than previous models, with seemingly improved damping even if the shock spec hasn’t officially changed. Again, like the controller, the 2025 Ultra Bee suspension is an improvement, but for advanced riders or those who are seeking more comfort, choosing a suspension re-valve or an upgraded Sirris F43 fork and R46 shock are still recommended.

The new 18-inch rear wheel is a practical improvement. It gives you access to a much wider range of rear tires and adds valuable sidewall flex, especially in rocky or rooty conditions. The 19-inch front wheel, however, still gives the bike a very quick-turning feel. Some riders may prefer that agility, but switching to a 21-inch front will offer more rollover and stability up front.

As for chassis feel, the added weight isn’t a drawback. The bike still feels nimble and playful, and the reinforced frame helps the platform feel more planted at speed or in rougher terrain.

Was the 2025 Surron Ultra Bee Worth It?

The 2025 Surron Ultra Bee doesn’t try to reinvent the platform, it just makes it better. With more power, stronger components, and new features that actually add value, it feels like the bike Surron should have shipped from day one.

Riders who liked the original will find this version even more capable out of the box. And for anyone planning to modify their Ultra Bee, this updated platform gives you a much better starting point.

We’ll be testing real-world range, trail modes, and durability over the coming weeks — and yes, we’ll mod this bike too. If you’ve got upgrade ideas you want us to test, drop us a comment in the YouTube video above!
