Graham Jarvis on Racing Electric Dirt Bikes in Hard Enduro

GRAHAM JARVIS

In Episode 8 of The eMoto Show, we sit down with hard enduro legend Graham Jarvis to talk about his transition into electric and what it means for the future of the sport.

Graham explains that this Jarv-E project has been years in the making. He first saw the potential for electric dirt bikes over five years ago, but is diving head first into it now.

One of the biggest takeaways is his stance on riding without a clutch. While that might sound like a disadvantage in hard enduro, Graham says the opposite is true. With proper setup and tuning, the bike delivers smooth, controllable power without needing to build revs, making technical riding simpler and less fatiguing.

We also get into how quickly the bike has developed. Instead of traditional mechanical changes, most adjustments now happen through an app, allowing for rapid testing and constant improvement. According to Graham, the progress over just a few months has been significant.

On the racing side, electric bikes are now being allowed to compete directly alongside gas bikes in FIM Hard Enduro World Championship events. Battery swaps are already competitive with fuel stops, and in some cases, range may not even require a stop depending on setup.

Graham also touches on the advantages for both pro and amateur riders – less maintenance, reduced fatigue, easier learning curve, and a quieter riding experience that opens up more access to trails.
