We’ve put the new 2025 Surron Ultra Bee through a real-world battery range test on Colorado mountain singletrack to see how it stacks up – not just on paper, but against the 2024 stock Ultra Bee and our ECR modded 2024 Ultra Bee, both of which we tested extensively during our midsize eMoto shootout last year.
The Goal
Ride the new Ultra Bee completely stock in Sport mode, just like we would on a normal trail ride, and run it from 100% battery down to near-empty. No eco-mode games, no hypermiling, just a regular ride in actual off-road conditions.
The Setup
- Model: 2025 Surron Ultra Bee (Completely stock OEM)
- Battery: 74V 60Ah (up from 55Ah in 2024)
- Riding Mode: Sport (18kW)
- Terrain: Colorado spring trail conditions (wet, technical, some snow patches)
- Tracking: Strava, Garmin GPS, and onboard odometer
Range Results
- 2025 Surron Ultra Bee Final Distance: 20 miles
- Battery Remaining: 8%
- Riding Conditions: Continuous Sport mode with moderate elevation and trail features
- Power Behavior: Full power maintained to 12%, tapering begins below 10%
Compared to the 2024 stock Ultra Bee, which gave us 23 miles in mid-power mode during the shootout, the 2025 model delivered slightly less real-world range despite its higher-capacity battery. The difference comes down to power output: the 2025 Ultra Bee has more torque and punch, and we made full use of it.
More importantly, Surron updated how power is delivered at low battery percentages. In our 2024 test, the Ultra Bee began power-limiting at around 28%. On the 2025 model, we didn’t feel any major performance drop until we dipped into the low teens. That’s a significant improvement—letting you finish your ride, not limp home early.
How It Stacks Up
Here’s how the 2025 Ultra Bee compares with the top contenders from our 2024 midsize range test:
Bike | Range (Miles) | Notes |
---|---|---|
Arctic Leopard EX800 | 34 | Longest range, stock setup |
ECR Modded 2024 Ultra Bee | 26 | 21/18 wheels with mousses, EBMX X9000 controller (15kW), Sirris suspension, stock battery |
2024 Stock Ultra Bee | 23 | Stock bike, Sport mode only |
2025 Stock Ultra Bee | 20 | Stock bike, Sport mode only |
While the new Ultra Bee didn’t beat the stock 2024 bike in distance, it does ride better deeper into the battery, which makes the 20-mile mark feel more usable. It’s also worth noting the stiffer, refined chassis makes it more capable on rugged terrain—though we’d still recommend upgrades like better tires and suspension if you’re riding hard.
Real-world takeaway:
The 2025 Surron Ultra Bee gives up a few miles compared to last year’s model, but it delivers a better low-battery experience and more performance deeper into the battery cycle. It’s still one of the most fun and nimble bikes in this class—but don’t expect miracles from the larger battery if you’re hammering it in Sport mode.
If you’re riding (at our pace) in Sport mode, you can expect about 20 miles per charge on off road singletrack. Want more? A controller upgrade (like we did on the 2024 modded version) may be the next move.
