When it comes to electric dirt bikes, battery range remains one of the most critical factors. We put five mid size electric dirt bikes through their paces in a controlled range test, riding them until their batteries had nothing left to give to find out which bike has the best battery range. Here’s how the bikes stacked up.
The Contenders
Our lineup consisted of a mix of production models, custom builds, and even a prototype:
- Arctic Leopard EX800
- Electric Motion Escape XR Limited Edition
- Stock Surron Ultra Bee
- ECR Modded Surron Ultra Bee
- Dust Moto Model One Alpha Prototype
Each bike brought unique features to the table, and we leveled the playing field by keeping them in their mid-power modes, ensuring balanced performance while conserving battery life.
How the Test Worked
To make this test fair and comprehensive, we logged our distances using the onX Offroad app, which allowed us to track every mile with GPS accuracy. Riders swapped bikes every 10 to 15 minutes, ensuring that differences in weight and riding styles didn’t skew the results.
We chose a spirited singletrack pace—fast but not race-level aggressive—to mimic the way most riders would tackle their local trails. We leveled the playing field by keeping them in their mid-power modes, ensuring balanced performance while conserving battery life.
Breaking Down the Bikes
Arctic Leopard EX800
The Arctic Leopard is a powerhouse in this category, running 17kW in Mode 2 with 30% regenerative braking. The Arctic Leopard EX800 has 5.6 kWh of capacity (74v 75Ah).
Electric Motion Escape XR Limited Edition
Known for its trials heritage, the Electric Motion Escape XR Limited Editino brought precision and efficiency. In its stock configuration, it was set to 50% throttle reactivity, 69% maximum power, and 95% maximum speed. The Escape XR LE has 3.5kWh of capacity (50.4v 70Ah).
Stock Surron Ultra Bee
The Ultra Bee is a staple in the electric dirt bike world. For this test, we left the settings mostly untouched, running it without brake or coast regeneration, traction control off, and throttle sensitivity at its default level. The Stock Surron Ultra Bee has 4.1 kWh of capacity (74v 55Ah).
ECR Modded Surron Ultra Bee
This custom Ultra Bee was heavier and more aggressive than its stock counterpart, with upgrades like a Sirris F43 fork and R46 shock, Warp 0 21/18 wheel combo with Nitro bib mousses and IRC gummy tires, and an EBMX X9000 controller pushing 15kW in Map 2. Importantly, it still ran the stock battery and motor. The Mod Surron Ultra Bee has 4.1 kWh of capacity (74v 55Ah).
Dust Moto Model One Alpha Prototype
The wildcard of the group, this prototype isn’t commercially available yet, and its battery tech is still evolving. This bike is currently running Sirris Suspension and has a prototype battery capacity of 2.8kWh (72v 39Ah).
The Final Battery Range Results
Here’s how the bikes stacked up:
- Arctic Leopard EX800: 34 miles
- ECR Modded Surron Ultra Bee: 26 miles
- Stock Surron Ultra Bee: 23 miles
- Electric Motion Escape XR: 21 miles
- Dust Moto: 14 miles
