KTM Releases New 2025 KTM Freeride E

2025 KTM Freeride E

One of our favorite bikes over the years has been the KTM Freeride E-XC. We’ve always appreciated the durability and quality that comes with KTM’s off-road machines. But over the years, we’ve been hoping for an update, as other electric dirt bikes have started to outperform the Freeride E, offering better battery range, more power, in lighter packages. Enter the new 2025 KTM Freeride E. Has KTM finally delivered the long-awaited improvements?

The 2025 KTM Freeride E is a step forward in KTM’s electric off-road lineup, marking ten years since the original Freeride E-XC hit the scene. This refreshed model comes with more power, longer battery life, and modern features that cater to both seasoned riders and new riders to electric dirt bikes.

2025 KTM Freeride E Power and Performance

KTM’s latest Freeride E produces a nominal 11 kW of power, but it’s the peak power output of 19.2 kW and 37 Nm of torque that really steps it up. While the top speed is a respectable 95 km/h (about 59 mph), the real draw here is the immediate torque that’s ideal for tight, technical off-road riding. The new motor is claimed to be quieter and more efficient than before.

Three ride modes—ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT—allow you to adjust power delivery depending on your needs, while three energy recuperation settings (Off, Mid, High) help manage battery life. For safety, KTM has included a rollover sensor, which cuts power in the event of a crash. We hope this is a setting that can be turned off, but we digress.

2025 KTM Freeride E Battery and Range

The most anticipated update is the battery. The 2025 Freeride E boasts a 5.5 kWh battery, a 20% improvement over the previous model, providing 2-3 hours of Enduro riding time. What makes the new battery particularly interesting is its modularity; it can be swapped out in less than 10 minutes, which is great for extended rides if you have a second battery. Charging time with the included 660 W charger is about 8 hours for a full charge, or you can go from 20% to 80% in about 4-5 hours. This seems to be a big change from the 220v fast charger provided with the previous model.

KTM has also put significant work into the new chassis. It features a chromoly steel frame that uses the engine and battery as structural components, keeping the overall weight to just under 112 kg (about 247 lbs). This weight reduction, combined with a wider wheelbase and new geometry, KTM claims to make the bike feel nimble but stable.

2025 KTM Freeride E Suspension

The suspension is all-new too, with the front WP XACT 43mm split design fork and rear WP XPLOR PDS system offering 250 mm of travel. These are adjustable on the fly, making it easier to dial in your ride whether you’re tackling rocky trails or smoother paths.

What’s New and Noteworthy

In terms of features, the Freeride E is loaded with upgrades. The new Switchcube on the handlebars allows for easy switching between ride modes and energy recuperation settings. BRAKETEC braking systems, in-mold graphics, and black aluminum wheels fitted with Michelin Enduro tires round out the list of practical and performance-oriented improvements. Plus, its street-legal homologation means you can transition from trails to roads without any hassle.

The 2025 KTM Freeride E finally answers many of the critiques we’ve had over the years. While KTM has always offered durability and off-road capability, this latest model brings the Freeride E up to speed with better battery performance, lighter handling, and a slew of modern features. On the surface, the new Freeride appears to be a well-rounded machine, built with KTM’s reputation for quality and toughness, but will it be a relevant option when compared to the other competitors on the market? We’re excited to find out.
