Remember the preview we all got last October of Harley Davidson’s stylish new eBike, the Serial 1? It had a sleek glossy black frame, a springer leather saddle, and a bunch of sweet-looking aesthetic touches like solid white tires, matching leather handgrips, and sweet chrome dropouts for the front wheel that were all pulled straight from Harley’s first-ever motorcycle, the “Model 1.” Here’s a picture to refresh your memory just in case:
Well, the new Serial 1 eBikes have finally arrived, and they don’t look like that.
They do look pretty handsome though, and while they don’t exactly deliver on the outright style of October’s prototype, they’re plenty sleek in their own right.
Below we’ll dig into each of the new models below and cover what to expect from each.
HD Serial 1 MOSH/CTY
MSRP: $3,700
Battery Capacity: 529 Wh
Torque: 90 Nm/66 ft. lb
Top Assisted Speed: 20 mph
The MOSH/CTY is the entry-level bike in the new Serial 1 lineup, coming at over $1000 less than the other models. We wouldn’t exactly call it a no-frills bike though.
For your money you’ll be getting many of the same premium touches as the other Serial 1 bikes like the full LED light package which includes the headlight, tail lights, and that cool light-up logo on the headtube that’s unique to the Serial 1 line.
The single biggest difference worth pointing out between the MOSH and the other more expensive models is that the MOSH uses a single-speed freewheel hub where other bikes in the Serial 1 line come equipped with an Enviolo CVT system which uses an “intelligent auto-shift” technology to make pedaling that much easier at any speed. Oddly enough the simpler system appears to give it an efficiency bonus over the CVT, as the MOSH can get a full 105 miles on a full charge of its 529 Wh battery where the STEP-THRU model below only manages a claimed 90 miles.
The MOSH is also the only bike in the Serial 1 line that doesn’t include the LCD color display, frame-integrated storage box, integrated fenders, or the luggage racks that come standard on each of the RUSH models.
HD Serial 1 RUSH/CTY
MSRP: $4,999
Battery Capacity: 706 Wh
Torque: 90 Nm/66 ft. lb
Top Assisted Speed: 20 mph
The RUSH/CTY is the first bike in the new Serial 1 lineup to receive the upgraded 706 Wh capacity as well as the auto-shifting Enviolot CVT transmission.
While these upgrades don’t improve the top speed or torque output of the RUSH/CTY over the MOSH model above (all Serial 1 models are specced with the same torque output), it will boost your range up to a maximum of 115 miles on a full charge (when used in Eco mode under normal conditions).
You’ll also get all the Serial 1 goodies at this price like the handlebar-mounted full-color LCD display, extra storage in the downtube, luggage racks, and fenders. In our opinion the RUSH/CTY also gets the sweetest color scheme, with an optional two-tone silver and black with HD-orange accents inside the front fork.
HD Serial 1 RUSH/CTY STEP-THRU
MSRP: $4,999
Battery Capacity: 529 Wh
Torque: 90 Nm/66 ft. lb
Top Assisted Speed: 20 mph
If you’re interested in the premium features of the RUSH/CTY above but prefer an easy to live with step-through frame design over a traditional top tube, you’ll want to check out the RUSH/CTY STEP-THRU.
This model comes in at the same price as the standard RUSH/CTY, and for the most part shares all the same features save for one: The larger capacity 706 Wh battery.
That’s because HD had to stick with the 529 Wh battery to maintain maximum negative space inside the STEP-THRU’s frame (you’ll notice each of the 706 Wh models have a pronounced “hump” above the bottom bracket to house that extra capacity). That smaller battery will limit your range to an estimated 30 to 90 miles depending on your riding style and terrain, but it will also cut your charge time down to just 2.6 hours 0-100%, so it isn’t all bad.
HD Serial 1 RUSH/CTY SPEED
MSRP: $5,599
Battery Capacity: 706 Wh
Torque: 90 Nm/66 ft. lb
Top Assisted Speed: 28 mph
The RUSH/CTY SPEED is the flagship bike in the new Serial 1 lineup, and includes all the premium goodies in exchange for the extra $600 on its pricetag over the other RUSH models.
What you’ll get for your money with the SPEED will be (a) an upgraded motor that boosts top speed to 28 mph and (b) different color options.
Whether or not that extra 8mph is worth the premium price tag will come down to personal preference, but just know that the power output and range are identical to the RUSH/CTY step over above.
